Our Story: A Legacy of Innovation
Clopay’s story begins in 1859 with the Benard Seinsheimer Corporation, a Cincinnati-based paper wholesaler. During the 1930s, the company adapted with the times, manufacturing blackout window shades during the war and adopting the name “Clopay”—an inventive acronym for “cloth and paper.”
The chapter that defines Clopay today began in 1964, when the company entered the garage door business with the acquisition of Baker-Aldor-Jones of Hialeah, Florida. Within just a few years, Clopay expanded its manufacturing footprint to Russia, Ohio, where the facility quickly became the center of its garage door operations. That move into garage doors set Clopay on the path to becoming one of the industry’s most recognized names.
As the business grew, so did Clopay’s commitment to American manufacturing. Headquartered in Mason, Ohio, Clopay now operates four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the United States and supports a vast network with over 55 distribution centers.
