Selection of your Code enforcement body will determine which version of ASCE 7 is used to calculate your design pressure.

Codes based on ASCE7-05 use “basic” wind speed and a load combination adjustment factor of 1.0.

Codes based on ASCE7-10 & ASCE7-16 use "ultimate" wind speed and load combination adjustment factor of 0.6.

This calculator has already accounted for the load reduction factor for ASCE7-10 and ASCE7-16 loads.

The Mean Roof Height is the average of the roof eave height and the height of the highest point on the roof surface, except the eave height shall be used for roof slopes less than 10 degrees or 2.1:12.

Maximum Calculated Mean Roof Height is 60 feet. Please contact the Engineer of Record for calculations involving building greater than 60 feet.

This calculator uses the equations from ASCE 7 supplements to calculate the Kz values for Exposures C and D (and B for MRH >30). These can be looked up from the tables (available in ASCE 7) and interpolated from those values. The interpolated values are slightly more favorable (ie, slightly lower) that the values from the equations.

Select ENCLOSED if not located within a wind-borne debris region and after consulting with a licensed design professional.

Please be aware that the calculations will be the same for both "Partially Open" & "Partially Closed" building designations.

Select 1.15 if building represents hazard to human life or is an essential facility. Examples include but are not limited to schools, health care facilities, jails, fire and police stations, power generating facilities, aviation control centers, etc.

The calculator uses a reduced effective area for doors over 20’ wide and doors over 10’ tall. Some jurisdictions in south Florida use an even more restrictive definition of effective area. Please seek guidance from your local Authority Having Jurisdiction on oversized doors.
