Splish splash, does your door need a bath? Raise your hand if you didn’t know that your garage door needs an annual washing. Don’t worry; you’re not alone! To keep your door looking great and operating at its finest, it needs a little scrub a dub dub each year.
Simply follow these few tips and we’ll have your garage door shining in no time. First, gather the supplies you’ll need to get the job done. This list includes a hose, a bucket full of water, a large, soft sponge and a light detergent. Fill up the bucket with water from your hose and add a small amount of light detergent. Now, we’re ready to go!
Spray the door lightly with your hose to make it damp. Using a soft sponge (read: no harsh scrubbers), dunk it into your bucket of soapy water and gently wash that garage door with the light mixture. When you’ve successfully cleaned all of those nooks and crannies, reach for the hose again and spray the door lightly to rinse off the soap.
Next, let’s get ready to wax our door. Waxing your garage door is just as important as washing it each year. You’ll need some automotive spray wax and a clean, soft and dry towel. And don’t worry, you can apply the wax even while the door is wet.
Simply spray the wax on the door and massage it into the door with your towel in circular motions. Now the finish has a bit more protection from the elements!
Keep in mind, you may need to wash and wax your door a few additional times a year if you’re located near the coast or in an area where your door may see a lot of road salt.
One thing to remember: don’t use a power washer to wash your garage door. Using a power washer can damage its finish and we want to keep it looking as good as new.
