Wild About Wood Garage Doors

Jul 07, 2010

Here’s a look at some of our favorite Clopay Reserve Collection wood carriage house garage door installations from America’s top magazine showcase home projects.

LEED certified 2008 Southern Living Green Idea House – Whisper Mountain, NC

Located near Asheville, North Carolina, this house is an innovative blend of regional farmhouse exterior and contemporary interiors. A separate three-story barn-style garage, built entirely with recycled wind fence from old farmhouses, features a guest suite above.

The architect chose Clopay’s handcrafted 4-layer grooved cedar garage doors with square windows and crossbuck panels to complement the rustic setting. An added layer of insulation increases R-value of the doors to help improve the energy efficiency and comfort of the living spaces above.

Country Home 2007 Show Home - Portland Oregon

The mossy woodlands and dramatic peaks of Mt. Hood inspired the design of the 3,600 square foot show home, where earth-friendly attitude mixes with fresh country style.

Clopay’s 4-layer insulated Reserve Collection Limited Edition Series carriage house style doors handcrafted in cedar and custom stained to adorn the home’s multi-car car garage. Western Red Cedar withstands the natural elements making it an ideal wood species for a garage door in any climate – particularly one as damp and varying as is found in the Pacific Northwest.

The simplicity of the vertical grooved panel design and rectangular windows, coupled with organic feel of the decorative wrought iron handles complements the home’s Old World European estate styling perfectly.
