- The 4-Layer Carriage House Door: This model features a visible steel base finished in a realistic woodgrain texture. The decorative composite overlays are adhered directly to this steel surface to create the classic carriage house design.
- The 5-Layer Carriage House Door: This model is fully clad in composite. Because there is no visible steel, this extra layer of molded composite cladding gives the door a deeper, more authentic wood texture and grain appearance across its entire surface.

The primary difference between these two series is in the surface appearance. The Canyon Ridge® 4-Layer door features a durable, polyurethane-insulated steel base in a woodgrain texture, accented by composite overlays for a high-end, more budget-friendly carriage house style.
In contrast, the premium 5-Layer door features zero visible steel; the entire polyurethane-insulated steel base is enveloped in molded composite cladding plus overlays, offering the realism of a wood door. The cladding is grooved to look like individual wood boards. You can also choose from two woodgrain species: Clear Cypress and Mahogany to create a custom look. Clear Cypress is the only option on the stained 4-Layer carriage house door.

Both the Canyon Ridge® 4-Layer and 5-Layer series achieve their exceptional thermal efficiency by using Clopay's proprietary Intellicore® insulation technology. Intellicore® utilizes an advanced polyurethane foam injected directly into the steel core. As the foam is injected, it expands to fill every single interior crevice, chemically bonding to the surrounding steel skins.

The Canyon Ridge 4-Layer faux wood door combines an insulated steel base door with composite overlays to create the carriage house design. The steel face remains visible and features a realistic woodgrain texture that complements the composite overlays.
This construction gives homeowners the look of a wood garage door while keeping the durability and low maintenance of steel and composite materials. The 4-Layer model has an 18.4 R-value and is a more budget-friendly option compared to the fully clad 5-Layer model.
You can get many of the same panel and window combinations on both models, but the 4-Layer stained carriage house door is available only in the Clear Cypress woodgrain species.
Canyon Ridge 5-Layer Carriage House Door Details
The biggest difference you'll notice with the Canyon Ridge 5-Layer door is that there is no visible steel. The entire front of the door is covered with composite cladding and overlays, creating a look that is closer to a real wood garage door.
The composite cladding is grooved to resemble individual wood boards, adding depth and texture to the design. The 5-Layer model also gives homeowners more options when it comes to woodgrain appearance, with two species available: Clear Cypress and Mahogany.
With a 20.4 R-value, the 5-Layer door is also the most energy-efficient residential garage door model we offer.
