Finish

1. Does Clopay pre-finish entry doors?

Yes, we will stain any of the Arbor Grove, Rustic or Craftsman entry doors in one of eight stain colors. We will paint any of the Smooth fiberglass and steel doors in one of 18 paint colors.

2. Does my entry door require maintenance?

Yes, the entry door finish must be maintained. If the door is stained it should be top coated every 18-24 months. If it is painted it should be re-painted when the surface color has faded or rust appears.

3. What should I expect when I receive a primed entry door?

Steel entry doors have a white primer applied to the door and sidelight slabs and the frame parts. This primer is not intended to be the same quality as a painted door. Smooth fiberglass entry doors are not primed but arrive ready to be painted. There may be some scuffs on the steel primed or smooth fiberglass unfinished material due to handling. These are superficial only and do not affect the quality or operation of the door. These marks will not be visible when the door is painted. Doors that are painted have tan light rims which do not match the primed/unfinished doors. These will match the door color when they are painted.  If you have a customer that expects a door to look perfect before it is painted you may want to order the door to be finished at the factory.  Refer to finishing instructions for more details on the proper finishing instructions for entry doors that are not finished at the factory.

4. Is touch-up paint and stain sent with an entry door?

Yes, the touch-up paint and/or stain is in a clear plastic bag that is attached to the entry door. Installation instructions and corner seal pads are also in this bag. Please be sure not to discard this.

General

1. Can I buy a Clopay entry door to complement my Clopay garage door?

Yes, Clopay entry doors can complement many of the Clopay garage door, color, design and window options.

2. How much does an entry door cost?

The cost depends on many factors such as the panel material, the glass, the panel design and other options.

3. Is there identification on a Clopay Entry Door?

Yes, we are applying an ID Label to the top edge of all entry doors. The label has the entry door part number, the customer name and the order number.

4. How are Entry Doors prepped for hinges?

Clopay entry doors have what is known as a “full swipe” where the hinges are located. The entire edge of the door is machined where the hinge is placed. Hinges for some competitor entry doors are “surface mounted” which means the hinge is mounted with no machining of the door to accept the hinge. There is not an advantage to either of these methods; both provide an equal amount of support for the door.
