CLOPAY ANNOUNCES "2006 TRANSFORM YOUR HOME" CONTEST WINNERS
    CINCINNATI, OH - 6/26/2006

Garage door manufacturer Clopay Building Products and Meredith Corporation, publisher of Better Homes and Gardens®, Country Home®, Traditional Home®, Midwest Living®, Renovation Style® and Better Homes and Garden’s Remodeling Ideas® and Simply Perfect Exteriors®, today announced the grand prize winner of the “Clopay Transform Your Home Contest” is Doojduen Villaluna of San Marino, CA. Villaluna will receive a personal in-home design consultation from Chayse Dacoda, a celebrity designer on the TLC home improvement television series While You Were Out, a new Clopay garage door installed, $500 in exterior lighting fixtures, exterior paint, $1,000 in landscaping and $5,000 toward the cost of painting her home. Dacoda will visit the Villaluna home in June to review the proposed plans. The results of the transformation will be featured in the November/December 2006 issues of Renovation Style, Better Homes & Gardens - Better By Design, Country Home and Traditional Home. Villaluna, her husband, and their two small children are only the third family to own their 1934 French-Country style home. During their two-year tenure, they have gutted and remodeled almost every room inside the house, but the front exterior has remained untouched. “The exterior has so much potential, but it’s disguised by the dark, lifeless paint scheme,” she says. And the ribbed, metal garage door belongs on an industrial building instead of the front of our house. It greets you everyday when you drive in. Replacing it with a Clopay carriage house door is going to have a big impact.” Two first place prizes and 50 runners-up prizes were also awarded. First place prizewinners Keri and Neal Milton of West Bridgewater, MA and Nancy Allen of Katy, TX will each receive an exterior garage makeover plan tailored specifically for their home from Dacoda, a new Clopay garage door installed and up to $1,000 towards exterior paint and lighting fixtures. All winners will receive a signed copy of Dacoda’s While You Were Out book, published this year. Click here for the complete list of winners. “The results of this contest will show how minor cosmetic changes and a not-so-extreme budget can yield big improvements to a home’s curb appeal,” says Chayse Dacoda. “When considering an exterior makeover, I encourage homeowners to look at exterior details they can add or enhance to make their home stand out. Some key areas to focus on are the garage door, especially if it faces the street, the front door, lighting fixtures, landscaping, the paint color scheme, and accent pieces like house numbers, porch furniture, window boxes or planters.” To enter the contest homeowners were asked to mail a color photo of their home’s exterior, including the garage, along with a 50-word letter explaining why their home is the best candidate for an exterior makeover. Over 3,500 entries were received. For more information about Clopay Building Products call 800-225-6729 or log onto www.clopaydoor.com.
