Responding to homebuilding trends, Clopay® continues to offer homeowners more choice in selecting a garage door that complements their homes’ architectural style with new additions to its popular residential steel door lines. Beveled Glass Pattern New Window Option on Coachman™ Collection Clopay is now offering a beveled glass pattern as a decorative window option on its Coachman Collection of insulated steel carriage-house doors. The building products company is utilizing 3M’s patented Accentrim ™ technology to optically enhance the window surface so that when light filters through, it casts a rainbow of colors to create the illusion and depth of cut glass. Last fall, Clopay Building Products partnered with 3M to introduce this innovative new garage door window design application that offers “the look” of beveled glass at a more affordable price. Previously only available on the company’s Classic line of steel residential doors, Clopay has expanded the decorative pattern to its Coachman Collection. Focus group results show that the aesthetics of Accentrim are more appealing than traditional decorative window options. “The windows deliver ‘something extra’ that appeals to the higher end of the market, a key success criteria for a new product being launched at a time when consumer expectations for decorative enhancements are increasing,” said Pat Lohse, vice president of residential marketing. “We also see an opportunity for builders to capitalize -more- on this technology to differentiate and add curb appeal to homes in planned communities with highly visible, front-facing garages or to offer it as an affordable upgrade option on higher priced semi-custom homes.” The technology remedies many of the drawbacks associated with existing decorative options. Traditional cut glass windows require thick, heavy sheets of glass, and are often plagued by structural limitations and long lead times. In comparison, Accentrim can be applied to any thickness of glass including double strength and insulated, so customers will experience shorter lead times and less weight in the garage door window section. Wrought Iron Windows Add Old World European Charm to New Garage Doors New wrought iron window designs from Clopay offer an affordable way to carry out an Old World European inspired architectural theme all the way to the garage. Designed to complement other exterior architectural elements from this genre such as wrought iron handrails, light fixtures, fences and gates, these windows provide the look of handcrafted forged iron over beaded glass, but are actually constructed of a durable acrylic. The Tuscany and the Orleans are designs available on Clopay’s Classic raised panel line. Arched, long and short designs are available on the Gallery Collection of embossed steel carriage-house doors.
