The Troy (Ohio) Area Chamber of Commerce presented Clopay Building Products its “Outstanding Business Partner” award at a ceremony held on November 17. The award is presented to a business organization that has made a significant contribution to Troy schools during the past year.
Clopay was recognized for its participation in the “Lunch Buddies” volunteer mentoring program. Each month, Clopay employees had scheduled “lunch dates” with Troy 6th graders to talk about the importance of a good education and community involvement. At the end of the school year, students had the opportunity to tour Clopay’s Troy plant.
Tom Holderread, director of operations and plant manager for Clopay’s Troy manufacturing facility, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
”Clopay is honored to be the first company to receive this award – considering we are the ‘new kid on the block’ in Troy,” Holderread said. The company purchased the former MT Picture Display plant in 2006 to allow for expanded manufacturing capabilities and innovation.
“Lunch Buddies is a unique program because it allows volunteers to establish long-term relationships with the kids and share in their growth as they evolve over time. It’s a two-way street – we learn something new each month, too. We look forward to continuing to build our presence in the Troy community for many years to come,” he added.
