Clopay Reserve® Collection Limited Edition Series carriage-house style doors are featured on the 2008 Southern Living “Green” Idea House located in Whisper Mountain, N.C. (near Asheville).
The house is part of a three home showcase in a high-end “green” development that is open to the public for tours. Asheville Garage Door Service managed the installation.
The North Carolina Idea House, named Davidson Gap, is a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certified home, meaning it offers all the elements for healthy living and debuts Earth-friendly new home construction methods and products. This includes Energy Star appliances, low-VOC paint, non-toxic insulation, metal roofing, recycled natural materials, and native plants for landscaping, creating a real model of how to live in style and live Green.
The plan, designed by Allison Ramsey Architects, Inc. of Asheville, is an innovative blend of regional farmhouse exterior and contemporary interiors. A separate three-story barn-style structure houses a two-car garage on the first floor, with a complete guest suite above.
The garage was built entirely with recycled wind fence from old farmhouses. The architect chose Clopay’s handcrafted 4-layer grooved cedar garage doors with square windows and crossbuck panels to complement the rustic setting.
Although the barn-style garage doors appear to swing open, they operate with the modern convenience of an electric opener. An added layer of insulation increases R-value of the doors to help improve the energy efficiency and comfort of the living spaces above.
